June 15, 2005![]() Countless fans wait for the Witching Hour, and the Release of the Sixth Harry Potter Book. ( Alley photo from Oak Park Ave.) © Oak Park Journal photo The last time we had a Midnight book release of a J. K. Rowling book there were a few more people, the street was completely blocked off, and more businesses were playing a role in the festivities. Oak Park's first celebration was on June 20, 2003, but this year the event took all day and had events going on all over the Village. Magic Tree did not buy as many books this time as they had the time before. The reason for fewer books was the new increased competition from other books sellers, on line and in the town. ![]() The line from the Alley comes out onto the Sidewalk and leads to Magic Tree Bookstore. © Oak Park Journal photo The longest we found that anyone had been in line was about an hour and a half. Those in line noted the time fly as they chatted with friends and awaited the magic hour. ![]() Wizards, Warlocks, and others gather at the Magic Tree. © Oak Park Journal photo ![]() Folks liking Costumes and Fans of Rowling Enjoy the Evening. © Oak Park Journal photo ![]() At Midnight all Step Forward to the Beginning of a new Adventure, the Sixth Potter Book. © Oak Park Journal photo ![]() Bob Spatz is Happy to be near the Front of the Line and ready for the Sixth Harry Potter Book. © Oak Park Journal photo ![]() This is the line of people who did not buy a reserve copy and are allowed in a seperate door for their books. © Oak Park Journal photo ![]() There were a number of anxious readers who were using the street lights to read as they walked or sat on a bench. © Oak Park Journal photo ![]() The Book Table Book Store, across from the Lake Theater was also in the Harry Potter business this evening. © Oak Park Journal photo The evening was a big success for selling Harry Potter books and another feather in the cap for a town that likes reading and having a good time.
