The last time we had a Midnight book release of a   J. K.
Rowling book there were a few more people, the street was
completely blocked off, and more businesses were playing
a role in the festivities.  Oak Park's first celebration was on
June 20, 2003, but this year the event took all day and had
events going on all over the Village.  Magic Tree did not
buy as many books this time as they had the time before.
The reason for fewer books was the new increased
competition from other books sellers, on line and in the
town.

The longest we found that anyone had been in line was about
an hour and a half.  Those in line noted the time fly as they
chatted with friends and awaited the magic hour.

There were a number of anxious readers who were using the
street lights to read as they walked or sat on a bench.

The Book Table Book Store, across from the Lake Theater was also
in the Harry Potter business this evening.

The evening was a big success for selling Harry Potter books
and another feather in the cap for a town that likes reading
and having a good time.
